About THE MARK

A pool hustler returns to his old stomping ground. There he runs into two friends he hasn’t seen in a long time and they team up to score big. While driving to their destination, he realizes that this may be a one way ride.

The Mark is based on an excerpt of the novel, ‘Deflection’ by Jim Gottier. Screenplay by Taryn Kosviner and Howard Kingkade.

Elaine Del Valle (Producer) is an actress, writer and producer. She was named a 2013 “TRENDSETTER” at the Multicultural Media Forum, a Soulfrito Arts Foundation “Inspiring Artist”, a CNN ‘Woman of Note”, and a NY TImes “Triumph”. ‘Brownsville Bred’, the solo show which she wrote and periormed, won the 2012 HOLA Award for Outstanding Solo Periormance, The Network’s “One-Act Festival” and Teatro La Tea’s “The One Festival”. It also received nominations for Outstanding Contribution to Theatre in a Solo Periormance from The LA Theatre Review and The NY Innovative Theatre Awards.

Her production company, Del Valle Productions has produced several features, short films and web series, including her own REASONS Y…A comedy web series.

Taryn Kosviner (Director) began directing commercials in 2006. She was awarded the CP-EI SHOTS Young Director’s Award in Cannes that same year and was profiled by Shots Magazine as a ‘Hotshot of the Future’. Taryn’s first short film won Best Drama at the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival. Most recently she produced a documentary TV series for clients Microsoft and Red Bull about the video game industry which aired in Europe last year This is her second narrative project.

Simon Maclean (Jimmy) Simon’s recent theatrical work includes Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, John Proctor in The Crucible, Warwick Wilson in Biography and Chip in the world premier of Untying Love. Recent filmlTV work includes Umitless, We Need to talk about Kevin, Blue Bloods, As the World Tums, StoplFrisk (a Gbenga Akinnagbe short), Men’s Thanksgiving and can be seen in the upcoming film Everything’s Going to be Pink. Simon is the lucky husband of Jess and proud father of Max and Bea.

Joel Nagle (Derek) PALIMPSEST, has worked as an actor in film, television and on stage. In 2013 he was presented with a Special Jury Award for Acting at the Sundance Film Festival and an Independent Vision Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Male Lead Role at the
VISION FEST Rim Festival for his leading role in the film which has screened across the country and abroad. Recent film work includes, LICENSE PLATES, PEBBLE OF LOVE IN THE SHOE OF MY LIFE, THE CHALLENGER, LIGHT UP THE NIGHT, SMOKE, based on the short story Smoke, written by award winning writer Alan Heathcock, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE (Sundance & Cannes Film Festivals) and PARANOIA.

Anthony Crivello (Boonie) is currently appearing in the Off-Broadway production of “Heathers”. His past Broadway appearances include Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Marie Christine,Evita, Les Miserables, The News, Measure For Measure, as well as the title role in the Las Vegas production of Phantom of the Opera. He has appeared in numerous film and television shows including “Seinfeld,” “CSI: NY,” “Frasier,” “In-Laws,” “Crossing Jordan,” “Law and Order,” and “One Life to Live.”Anthony has received Broadway’s Tony Award, Chicago’s Jefferson Award, a Carbonelle Award and nominations for two Jefferson Awards, two Canadian Dora Mavor Moore Awards, LA’s Ovation, Drama Critics, Robbie, Garland Awards, and Friends of New York Theater Award.

Howard Kingkade (Writer)

Howard Kingkade is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at the University of South Carolina, Lancaster. Kingkade has written several screenplays including Hole in the Paper Sky, produced by and starring Jessica Biel. The film won best screenplay at the Beverly Hills Film Festival.

Jim Gottier (Author of Deflection)

Jim Gottier was born in Pomona, California in 1954 and has been hustling pool since age 13. He is proud of having beaten some of the best players in the world and shudders when he thinks of the long lisf of players who have beaten him. He has competed numerous times in the World’s Straight Pool Championship’s 64-player field. In Spring, 2007 Jim walked the Pilgrimage Road from Le Puy en Velay, France to Santiago de Compostella, Spain. Deflection is his first work written for publication.
